LESSON 10: LISTEN AND RESPOND 

THEME: Marriage Problems (Wife’s Version)

VERSE: Proverbs 18:10:The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe.”

STORY: There is a woman. Her name is Sarah. She is 45 years old. She has a husband named Chris. She has two kids.  Her kids are 13 and 15. Her son, Sam, is 15. Her daughter, Elizabeth, is 13. They live in a small town. Sarah and her husband have been together for 20 years. They have built a good life together. Well, Sarah thought they had built a good life together. One day Sarah came home and her husband told her that he had been having an affair. Sarah was very hurt. She knew she was called to stick by her husband through this but in the moment it was very hard for her to see how. She was very upset and did not like her husband very much at the moment. Chris felt really bad and did not want to hurt his wife. He did not know why he had the affair but was very sorry and knew he would never do it again. He found himself in a moment of weakness and regretted it. Sarah found herself in a position where she did not know what to do. She did not want her kids to know because she wanted to protect them from the hurt. Sarah knew she needed to seek counsel. Sarah wanted to forgive her husband but was not sure if she could. She knew that if she did not forgive her husband then their marriage would never last. After several days Sarah decided that it was important that they take some time apart to work on themselves and their marriage.  She asked Chris to move out and to go to counseling both as a couple and also alone. he had lost a lot of trust in him and knew it would be very difficult to get past this. However, with the Lord’s help, she knew that their marriage could be restored. Sarah spent many days and nights seeking the strength of the Lord. Proverbs 18:10 says, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe.”
