BEGINNER LEVEL 1: Lesson 21 for Teachers

LESSON 21: HEARING GOD’S VOICE

THEME: Life Application

VOCABULARY: run, jumped, stopped, spoke, warning, corner, accidentally, homeless, different, street, for sale, open, closed, keys

STORY: There is a woman. Her name is Jen. She likes to run. One reason she likes to run is it gives her time to listen to the Lord. One day when she was running, she heard God say that He was going to give her and her family a building for the 911 Life Foundation. Jen was so excited! She was ready to go and find a building right away.  But God stopped her and said, “No, not yet. I’m just warning you.” A few days later while driving, God spoke to her again. God told Jen to turn right at the next corner because today she would find the building. Jen accidentally took a wrong turn. When she took the wrong turn, a homeless man jumped out into the street. He said, “You’re going the wrong way. Turn down that street!!!” And the homeless man pointed up a different street. Jen turned the car up that street and saw a big building that was for sale.  This all happened on a Sunday. Since it was Sunday, everything was closed. But in front of the building, there was a man standing with the house keys. He asked Jen, “Do you want to see this house?” Of course, Jen wanted to see the house after she had heard from God. The man showed Jen the house and she knew it was perfect. Jen was able to buy the house with the help of God.

STORY WITH QUESTIONS: There is a woman. (Is there a woman or a man?) Her name is Jen. (What is her name?) She likes to run. (Does she like to walk or run?)  One reason she likes to run is it gives her time to listen to the Lord. (What does running give her time to do?) One day when she was running, she heard God say that He was going to give her and her family a building for the 911 Life Foundation. (Who spoke to Jen when she was running? What did He say to her? What is he going to give her?) Jen was so excited! (How did Jen feel?) She was ready to go and find a building right away. (Did she want to wait or look right away?) But God stopped her and said, “No, not yet. I’m just warning you.” (Did she have to wait? Why?) A few days later while driving, God spoke to her again. (Who spoke to Jen again?) God told Jen to turn right at the next corner because today she would find the building. (What did God tell her to do?) Jen accidentally took a wrong turn. (Did she go the right way?) When she took the wrong turn, a homeless man jumped out into the street. (Who jumped out into the street?) He said, “You’re going the wrong way. Turn down that street!!!” (What did he say?) And the homeless man pointed up a different street. (Where did he point?) Jen turned the car up that street and saw a big building that was for sale. (What did Jen see?) This all happened on a Sunday. (When did this happen – on a Saturday or on a Sunday?) Since it was Sunday, everything was closed. (Were things open or closed?) But in front of the building, there was a man standing with the house keys. (Who was in front of the building – a man or a woman? What did he have?)  He asked Jen, “Do you want to see this house?” (What did he ask Jen?) Of course, Jen wanted to see the house after she had heard from God. The man showed Jen the house and she knew it was perfect. (What did Jen think of the house?) Jen was able to buy the house with the help of God. (How was Jen able to buy the house?)

ACTIVITIES:

  1. Review the vocabulary words. Listen to the Vocabulary File for pronunciation. Look up the meaning of any words you don’t know.
  2. Listen to Audio 1 as you read through the story.
  3. Listen to Audio 2 – Story with Questions as you read through the story and answer the questions.
  4. Share how we don’t always hear from God in such a direct way. Share other stories of how people hear God’s voice (through dreams, messages, their senses, etc.)
  5. Retell the story in a diagram:
What happened first?

-Jen was running

What happened next?

-She heard God’s voice

What happened third?

-She went for a drive

What happened fourth?

-She heard God tell her where to drive

What did she see?

-She saw a house for sale and a man                 with the keys

What happened last?

-She bought the house
