LESSON 7: INTRODUCTION TO ENGLISH

THEME: The Story of Noah

STORY: There is a man.  His name is Noah. He is a good man. He loves and obeys God. God loves Noah a lot. There are many other people where Noah lives. God loves them all but they do not listen to God. God told Noah to build an ark (big boat). Noah listens to God and builds a boat. When Noah’s neighbors see him build a boat they laugh. There is no water in the desert. So why does Noah build the boat? God tells Noah that there is a flood coming and he will need the boat. Noah asks his neighbors to change their ways and listen to God. But they do not listen. God asks Noah to bring two of every animal of the earth with him on the boat. Noah and his family and the animals lived on the boat for 7 days. After 7 days the rain fell. The water continued to rise for 150 days. God sent a big wind and slowly the earth dries up.  After over a year Noah and his family move and start a new life on land.

STORY WITH QUESTIONS: There is a man. (Is there a man or a woman?) His name is Noah. (What is his name?)  He is a good man. (Is he a good or bad man?)  He loves and obeys God. (Who does he love and obey?)  God loves Noah a lot. (Who loves Noah a lot?)  There are many other people where Noah lives. (Are there a lot of people or only a few people where Noah lives?)  God loves them all but they do not listen to God. (Do Noah’s neighbors listen to God?)  God told Noah to build an ark (big boat).  (What did God tell Noah to build? Is it a big or small boat?) Noah listens to God and builds a boat. (Who builds a boat?) When Noah’s neighbors see him build a boat they laugh. (Who laughs?) There is no water in the desert. (Is there water in the desert?)  So why does Noah build the boat? God tells Noah that there is a flood coming and he will need the boat. (What does God say is coming?)  Noah asks his neighbors to change their ways and listen to God. ACTIVITIES:

    1. Review the vocabulary words. Listen to the Vocabulary File for pronunciation. Look up the meaning of any words you don’t know.
    2. Use a poster with vocabulary words and pictures. Have actions to go with the words if you can. The more movement for kids the easier it will be for them to learn the words.  
    3. Play the “Touch Game”
      1. Who can touch the picture first?
      2. For this game you have two kids come up to the front. You say a word like “boy.” Whoever finds the word first wins. The one who did not get it first sits back down and a new kid comes up. 
      3. Keep playing to review vocabulary words.  
    4. Listen to Audio 1 as you read through the story.
    5. Listen to Audio 2 – Story with Questions as you read through the story and answer the questions.
    6. Retell the story using pictures.  What happened first? Second? Third? Fourth? Fifth? Sixth.  
    7. Ask the main theme questions: Why is it important to listen to go? Or How do we listen to God?
    8. Have a student pray in English.
